Program

A focus on the essential has become increasingly crucial to processes of value creation in official statistics. Statistics offices must prioritise carefully to make the best use of limited financial resources. Which data and analyses benefit society most? The strategic use of AI can optimise processes, accelerate data analysis and tailor data delivery to the needs of different users. Such considerations are equally pertinent in the private sector, where optimising and adapting processes to new technologies such as AI can lead to long-term gains in efficiency.

In science, the principle of Occam's razor also guides us to focus on the essential when applying statistical methods and analyzing data. It is the fundamental concept that underpins many model selection techniques, statistical inference methods and machine learning algorithms.
